Fair Trade at SUNY ORANGE

To quote the great poet Ice Cube "today was a good day." Back around Thanksgiving I attended a picket on behalf of a fired worker from the starbucks workers union. I handed out many leaflets in front of starbucks headquarters. I also took time to read one and first learned about Fair Trade coffee. When I first met with the Student Political Awareness Club (SPAC) it was obvious that they were very much in favor of activism on campus. So I turned them onto this Fair Trade movement. Our club President Mike Zentz immediately took up the Fair Trade Torch and we began to educate ourselves, our professors and other students on the benifits of Fair Trade. SPAC and club ally Professor Gutierrez met with food service today and they agreed to acquire a Fair Trade brand. I am overwhelmed by this victory and hope it is only the first of many. I am lucky to have found SPAC and if I could recruit just one of these wonderful young people to the OBU that would be a "good day."
